This guide covers how to wire up OpenClaw to WhatsApp so your AI agent becomes reachable straight from your mobile device. Ask it to manage files, run commands, organize your schedule, or kick off automations — all through a WhatsApp message. What You Need Beforehand
Gather these before starting:
1. An active OpenClaw Hosting subscription with a deployed agent
2. WhatsApp Business API credentials
3. Access to Meta Business Suite
Step 1: Set Up a WhatsApp Business App
Navigate to developers.facebook.com and spin up a new application. Pick "Business" as the app type and activate the WhatsApp product.
Step 2: Grab Your Credentials
In the WhatsApp settings panel of your app, locate:
- Phone Number ID
- Access Token
- Webhook Verification Token
Save these values — you will need them shortly.
Step 3: Enter Credentials in OpenClaw Hosting
1. Log into your OpenClaw Hosting dashboard
2. Navigate to Settings > Integrations > WhatsApp
3. Paste your API credentials
4. Hit "Connect"
Step 4: Configure Your Webhook
Copy the webhook URL from your OpenClaw dashboard and add it to your WhatsApp app webhook configuration. Subscribe to the "messages" event.
Testing the Connection
Send a message to your WhatsApp Business number. Your AI agent should respond within seconds. Try a real task — ask it to check server status, draft an email, or execute a terminal command.
Troubleshooting Tips
If your agent is unresponsive:
- Verify the webhook URL is registered correctly with Meta
- Confirm the access token has not expired
- Check that your OpenClaw instance shows an active status
Expand to More Channels
With WhatsApp working, broaden your agent's reach:
- Telegram setup for wider messaging access
- Discord setup for community management
- Slack setup for workplace collaboration
